About

Okay, I’m jealous of my youngest. While I toiled away each day she toured the world – Hiroshima, the Great Wall, the Sydney Opera Hall, the Taj Mahal, the Coliseum, the Horn of Africa, Oktoberfest, Big Ben, and the Blarney Stone. All this while I drove daily past Fortmeyer’s Truck Stop!
So Fall of '09 I decided to depart on a world tour via some of our favorite ethnic restaurants in Fort Wayne.
The idea is simple: visit a new ethnic restaurant every cold Wednesday through a cold Hoosier winter all the while pretending you are somewhere else. Fool yourself into thinking you are traveling the world as you visit some out-of-the-way authentic eateries in the Fort Wayne area. When you add friends into the scheme its easy to get carried away with the fantasy. You’re invited to join us as we embark on our next adventure….

THE WORLD SAYS “EAT ME”…DOS!

Join Em and I for our second gastronomical tour of the world without leaving Fort Wayne! Visit Thailand, the Dominican Republic, Burma, Cuba, rural Allen County, and Japan without incurring a $2000 plane ticket, a vaccination, or a humiliating passport photo. Starting Wednesday, February 3, and for the five Wednesdays thereafter, we’ll be eating at a different ethnic restaurant somewhere within the orbit of the Summit City. There’s Pad Thai, Monfongo, Cuban Sandwiches, Samuzas, Sunday Dinner, and  Dragon Rolls in our future and it could be in yours too! Break up the week with a visit to a culinary adventure you’ve yet to experience – or,  are way overdue for a return.  Click on the “About” tab for a look at what this tour is all about or click on the Wk7-Wk12 “Week” tabs for details/reports on our February & March tour stops.
I will be sending email updates during the tour. If you would like to be added to the distribution list please send your email address to theworldsayseatme@gmail.com, or subscribe to this blog by clicking on the RSS feed (the orange box with the little white squigglies on the upper right hand side of this screen). Be sure to check the “Home” page for weekly updates, restaurant reviews and new posts.

But first, if you want to join us on the tour there are some very  simple rules:

REVISED - Check the Home Page for Updates

1) By the Sunday evening prior to the date, confirm your attendance. This gives us the opportunity to let the restaurant owners an idea as to how many of us will be descending on their eatery. In almost every case these folks will need to bring on extra help so its important to let me know. Please note that we may need to provide earlier notification for our Week 5 Amish visit.
2) We will meet each week at 6:30PM. Please try hard to NOT be fashionably late. This will be a large and unusual crowd for our hosts. Let’s make it as easy as possible for them.
3) Be prepared to pay cash. Switta Thai and Sakura will accept CC but be ready with cash for all the other visits. You may need to pay me for our Amish visit – more on that later. With any luck I won’t have to front “beef money” like I did on the last tour!
4) A passport will be provided. It will be stamped on each tour stop. Once you’ve received one be sure to bring it for each subsequent visit or be prepared to be heckled unmercifully. I may even fart in your general direction. Those who receive a minimum of 3 stamps will be welcome to join us all for an as-yet-to-be-determined special celebration.
5) Bring patience. I’ve requested the full menu at all locations so that we have an opportunity to try anything our little hearts desire. But, it will take the kitchen time to respond to our sudden surge of orders. Be prepared for a 1 ½ to 2 hour casual, leisurely dining experience.
6) Eat well, praise when earned, tip generously and share your experience. In nearly every case these folks do what they do because they believe in, and want to share their food. Ask anybody who went to Southtown Inn: it’s more than the bucks.
7) If you have questions, call me, Mark, at 452-5501.

If you’re interested in starting a tour of your own please let me know. I’ll share what info I have to get you in touch with the owners of the fine places we’ve visited who all share the common love for serving up a great plate of food and the atmosphere to enjoy it.
